Welcome to Brant, NY


Brant is a town in the southwestern corner of Erie County, on the shoreline of Lake Erie. With just over 2,000 residents, Brant is the least-populated town in the county. The town is bordered to the north by Evans, to the east by North Collins and Collins, to the south by the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, and to the west by Lake Erie. Brant includes the village of Farnham – the smallest village in the county – and a hamlet also named Brant. This is a farming community, with crops like corn, peas, and strawberries grown here. Evangola State Park also is in Brant.


For grocery shopping, residents take a quick 15-mile drive to Hamburg, which has Tops Friendly Markets stores on McKinley Parkway and on South Park Avenue. The closest Wegmans store is on McKinley Parkway in Blasdell, about 18 miles to the northeast. For retail shopping, Hamburg has two Walmart stores and Blasdell has McKinley Mall, whose stores include Sears, JC Penney and Macy’s. 

Recreation & Entertainment

Outdoor activities are the attraction here, from camping, swimming and fishing to seasonal hunting and snowmobiling. Several lakeside parks and beaches are in the vicinity. In nearby Derby is Graycliff, a home (and popular tourist attraction) designed by noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The town of Eden, about nine miles northeast of Brant, has a kazoo museum. Hamburg has a popular casino and is the site of the annual Erie County Fair. The Hamburg Palace Theatre offers discount movies, and McKinley Mall 6 is a larger, multi-screen movie complex.

Transportation & Traffic

The New York State Thruway passes through Brant, along with Route 5 and Route 20.

Pros & Cons

Brant is on the shoreline of Lake Erie, and many lakeside communities, parks and beaches are nearby. This is a popular place for outdoor activities like hunting and snowmobiling. Brant is the least-populated town in Erie County. The Cattaraugus Indian Reservation is at the south end of town.
